Lecturer in Pharmacology at School of Pharmacy, Brighton University and then the Welsh School of Pharmacy, Cardiff University, rising to Professor of Pharmacology. Sabbatical periods of research taken in Vancouver, Auckland and Malbourne. Supervised successfully over 40 PhD students and widely examined in the UK and overseas. Research areas in cardiovascular pharmacology with contributions on the actions of adenosine in the heart and coronary circulation and on the pharmacology of sympathomimetics, amphetamines and trace amines in the isolated and intact vasculature. Expertise in both in vivo and in vitro methods. Interests in airways pharmacology of adenosine and in in vivo models of asthma and COPD and viral exacerbations. Wide collaborations with small and large Pharma to evaluate novel and established asthma and COPD treatments, such as corticosteroids. Grants from BHF, Wellcome Trust and Research Councils. Published over 400 papers, reviews and abstracts and one textbook; Autonomic Pharmacology (Taylor Francis 1996).
